Scientific and Educational Activities:

1976-2006 conducted educational activity at the Georgian Technical University on the faculty of mineralogy and geochemistry. In 1976 he was the associate professor of the same department. Since 1978 is a professor of Georgian Technical University. 1979-1996 was a head of the chair of mineralogy and geochemistry. 1996-2005 - Technical University of Georgia- Professor of the faculty of Mineralogy, Petrology and Geochemistry (part-time job). 
Under the guidance of D.Shengelia 9 candidate and 3 doctoral dissertations have been defended.
D.Shengelia is a Corresponding Member of the Georgian National Academy of Sciences, Academician of the Georgian Engineering Academy. In 1992 he was awarded Al.Janelidze Prize and in 2008 – Al.Tvalchrelidze prize. D.Shengelia is a fourfold winner of the George Soros Foundation Competition for the Professor’s title.
